The next enterprise AI breakthrough will look obvious in retrospect

Author - Enrique Dans

The eighth article brings the series to the edge of the reveal. Once the missing layer appears, much of today’s enterprise AI landscape will look transitional: the pilots, the copilots, the FDEs, the prompt engineering, the consulting-heavy deployments, the obsession with model capability as if the model were the product. The real breakthrough will be an abstraction that organizes intelligence inside the enterprise: a layer where context, state, constraints, permissions, workflows, feedback loops, and objectives become native. Like the web after the internet, like SQL after databases, like ERP after bespoke enterprise software, it will seem obvious after the fact. But before it appears, it is almost invisible. The article closes the arc by pointing directly at the discontinuity: enterprise AI is waiting for the architecture that turns raw intelligence into compounding organizational intelligence.
